'Brahma Vidya Yagam' at Guruvavur from May 28-30

Kochi, May 22 (UNI) A 'Brahma Vidya Yagam' is to be performed in the temple town of Guruvayur from May 28 to 30 for the educational and spiritual betterment of children, the organisers said today.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Hari Narayanan, Chairman, Sai Sanjeevani Trust, said this was perhaps the first time in the country that a 'yagam' was being performed specifically to strengthen the educational and spititual prowess of children.

The three-day 'yagam', to be held at the Sreekrishna High School Stadium, would be led by Pandal Vaidika Jathavedan Namboothiri. The programme would consist of 'Ashtadravya Ganapathi Homam', 'Medha Dakashina Moorthi Homam', 'Saraswatha Japam and Pachagavya Japam', 'Sukrutha Homam' and 'Sree Chakra Pooja'.

On the third day, almost 5,000 children would be allowed to directly perform 'archana' in the 'yagashala' for their spiritual betterment, Kizhiyedam Raman Namboothiri, chairman, organising committee said.

Mr Hari Naraynan said the estimated cost of the three-day 'yagam' was about Rs 20 lakh and this was being met by the Sai Sanjeevani Trust, based in Guruvayur. He said the trust was supporting the education of more than 2,500 children and the 'yagam' was aimed at the spiritual transformation of the youth into more enlightened and thinking individuals.

Vibrations generated from the chanting of the vedic prayers was bound to have a beneficial effect on children, even those who were mentally retarded, Guruvayur 'thantri' P P Nandakumar Namboothiri said.

Besides consecrated 'ghee', gold plated silver lockets embossed with 'yanthra' would be distributed at the end of the 'yagam', he said.
