Antony expresses concern over delay in acquisition of arms

Daman, May 22 (UNI) Emphasising that the government was committed to faster modernisation of Armed Forces, Defence Minister A K Antony today admitted that the delay in acquisition of various requirements of Armed Forces is causing a serious problem to security forces.

The Defence Minister said indigenisation was an integral part of the modernization of Armed Forces while speaking at the Silver Jubilee function of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Aviation here.

He emphasised the need for faster modernisation of the Coast Guard in view of emerging seaward threat specially from neighbouring country-based terrorists outfits.

The Minister reiterated there would be no compromise on transparency while going through the process of modernization.

The Defence Minister said that as India gains international stature and becomes an economic powerhouse, the Coast Guard's responsibilities are bound to increase.
