Akal Takht Jathedar thanks Punjabis for peaceful bandh

Amritsar, May 22 (UNI) Akal Takht Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti today thanked the people of Punjab for maintaining peace and communal harmony during the state bandh which was observed today against the alleged anti-Sikh activities of Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Raheem Singh.

''The people of Punjab have shown remarkable restraint and wisdom by ensuring peace and communal harmony during the bandh,'' Jathedar Vedanti said in statement here.

Regarding reports of violence from Haryana and other states, he held the administration of those states responsible for the untoward incidents.

The police lathicharge in Ambala, he said, was uncalled for as the Sikh demonstrators were trying to take out a peaceful procession in the city.
