New Delhi, May 22: Construction firm ABB Ltd has been awarded an order worth Rs 289 crore for supply of turnkey electrification package for the second phase of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

The project scope includes electrification of overhead lines, provision of auxiliary substations and a supervisory control and data acquisition solution interconnecting all the stations en-route.

ABB will also help the DMRC in linking the main receiving and traction substations to a central control center and a back-up control center.

The project is expected to be completed by early 2010.

The company's system package comprises several leading edge power technologies including a range of switchgear, distribution equipment and remote controlled auxiliaries.

''By using similar equipment as that supplied in Phase I, DMRC will also benefit in terms of asset management services and managing their spares inventory,'' a statement said.

Phase II of the Metro line spans ten corridors across parts of the national capital and surrounding areas of Gurgaon and Noida.

The Delhi Metro presently covers 65 km both underground and at surface level, with 59 stations in operation. At the completion of the second phase, it aims to service another 100 km with 75 stations.

The network, once completed, is expected to carry over 1.1 million passengers per day.
