Srinagar, May 22 (UNI) Under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNURM) Rs 8000 crores will be spent on an ambitious project for the development of two cities of Srinagar and Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad announced here today.

People of the state have suffered a lot during all these turmoil year and have faith in administration as such we have to re-double our efforts to ameliorate the lot of poor, downtrodden and those living in remote and far-off areas, Chief Minister said while speaking to block, tehsil and district level officers of Badgam district.

Reiterating that vibrant, apolitical, efficient and transparent administration is essential for development, Mr Azad said that personal interest and devotion of government functionaries was imperative to achieve results.

He said that liberal funding by the central government and launching of prestigious programmes under Prime Minister's Reconstruction Plan, Asian Development Bank funding, Bharat Nirman, PMGSY and National Rural Health Mission would certainly improve the development scenario of the state and bring about healthy socio-economic change.

''God has given you the authority and provided an opportunity to serve the people,'' he said and added that the officers must be accountable to their own conscious and work fearlessly, honestly and with missionary zeal.

Referring to the varied topography and diverse geo-climatic conditions of the state, Mr Azad said that the difficult geographical condition and inhospitable weather in the state have made the task of administration more challenging.

The eighteen year long turmoil has further compounded the problem, he said and added we have to give 100 per cent and ensure that people are not deprived of our response to their difficulties.

The Chief Minister said that the basic objective behind the unconventional interaction with officers at district headquarters was to highlight the role of effective and responsive administration in translating public benefit schemes into reality.

Mr Azad said that the initiative, drive and managerial capacity of administration would ensure all-round progress.

He said that South Indian states had registered perceptible progress due to positive attitude and the mindset of the government functionaries at various level.
