Survey for coal bed methane in Chhattisgarh

Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, May 21 (UNI) A preliminary survey for exploring coal bed methane gas (CBM) would be held in South Eastern Coalfield Ltd's Korba and Sohagpur mines.

SECL Chairman-cum-Managing Director B K Sinha said the survey in Korba area was entrusted to Central Mining Project and Development Institution (CMPDI).

On the recommendation of the Government of India, Coal India had given the permission for CBM exploration to Reliance Petrochemical Ltd at two places, including Sohagpur in Madhya Pradesh.

Meanwhile, an expert associated with the coal industry said availability of CBM in the coal mines in SECL area was scarce.
