Over 100 held in teachers' agitation

Puducherry, May 21 (UNI) Over 100 volunteers of different youth and students organisations and unemployed graduate teachers were arrested for obstructing road traffic near the Venkatasubbareddiyar Statue here today.

Police arrested them after an altercation as they refused to call off their agitation and clear the roads.

The unemployed graduate teachers were on an indefinite fast near the statue, demanding the filling up of vacant posts on seniority basis. Several youth and students organisations, including DYFI, AIYF and SFI came in support of them and put up the road blockade resulting in the arrest.

The arrested teachers continued their fast in police custody too and attempt to commit suicide cases were registered against them.
