No lost output from Nigeria oil break-in-Total
LAGOS/PARIS, May 21 (Reuters) Unknown intruders broke into a disused oil well in Nigeria operated by French oil company Total today, but there were no injuries nor any impact on oil output, a company spokeswoman said today.
''There has been no attack but an intrusion yesterday night at disused oil wells. They opened a valve, causing a small spill. The valve has been shut again. Everything is under control,'' a Total spokeswoman said.
''(There was) No explosives, no fire,'' she added.
Earlier today, sources at private security companies said unidentified gunmen had attacked the oil facility using high explosives.
Attacks on oil facilities and kidnapping of foreign workers have become frequent in the world's eighth largest oil exporter, and almost a third of the country's oil output has been halted since Feb. 2006.
The attack pushed oil prices above 70 dollars a barrel today.
London Brent for July delivery traded up 64 cents at 70.06 dollars.
