Model farmers selection biased: TDP

Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, May 21 (UNI) The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today criticised the selection of Adarsha Rythu (model farmer) as part of the state-sponsored 'Rythu Chaitanya Yatra' alleging that it was of little benefit to the agricultural sector.

Addressing a party meeting TDP state Committee Secretary and Observer of West Godavari District party K Kala Venkat Rao criticised Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's statement on the 'Adarsha Rythu' selection.

Mr Reddy had stated that there was nothing wrong with the selection of Congress partymen as the model farmer. The TDP leader ter,ed tjos ridiculous statement from a person who was holding the Chief Minister's post.

He also alleged that this showed how the administration was going on in the state.

The TDP leader, who was a former minister, stated that the government has introduced the Adarsha Rythu Concept with a view to get better results in agriculture sector. However, the concept had become ''an employment programme for the Congress supporters'', he alleged.

The officials selected only Congress supporters who were not at all concerned with agriculture, he also charged.He demanded that the government must clarify how it would get better results.
