MLA candidate should be from within constituency:MPP
Aizawl, May 21 (UNI) The Mipui Pawl (People's party), a newly formed political organisation in Mizoram, has demanded that an Mla candidate should be from its constituency only.
With this as a theme, the MPP had organised a seminar yesterday at the Aizawl Press Club which was attended by many prominent citizens of the state.
Presenting a paper, retired high school headmaster and MPP leader C Ropianga said that since all the MLAs belonged to Aizawl, they failed to understand the problems of rural constituencies.
"Even if they do, they don't bother much because they are not affected by the problems of rural Mozoram. So, in order to the uplift the rural people, we should have an MLA who belongs to the constituency," he exhorted.
MPP president and retired IAS M Lalmanzuala underlined the importance of qualifications for an MLA candidate. " We have had a lot of MLAs without qualifications as though we don't feel the need to have qualifications for this most important post. The results of having MLAs without qualifications are the representatives becoming richer and richer and the represented becoming poorer and poorer," he said.
He said qualifications include high moral, unselfish, unbiased and one should be bold to stand against intimidations and temptations.
Since inception, the MPP has been campaigning party-less politics for better governance in Mizoram. The leaders were gearing up to fight the assembly polls in 2008, Mr Lalmanzuala announced.
