JE convenor urges CM to initiate eradication programme

Gorakhpur, May 21 (UNI) National Japanese Encephalitis (JE) Programme convener Dr R N Singh has urged Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati to take necessary steps for eradication of the deadly disease.

In his letter to the Chief Minister, Dr Singh stated that thousands of people had died from the disease in the last three decades. JE had affected seven districts of eastern UP, including Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Basti, Siddharth Nagar, Deoria and Sant Kabir Nagar.

This year, about 72 JE patients were admitted in Raghavdas Medical College of which 25 have succumbed, he said.

Dr Singh claimed guidelines of High Court were also not followed besides and there was lack of appropriate measures.

He urged Ms Mayawati to focus her attention on the hazards caused by this disease and initiate steps to curb it as soon as possible.
