Heavy rainfall brings relief to Kolkatans

Kolkata, May 21 (UNI) Heavy showers towards the evening brought much-needed respite to Kolkatans today.

Rainfall coupled with thundershowers affected the city's vehicular traffic and flights as well. Rainfall was recorded at 19.8 mm, MET officials said here.

Local train services were also disrupted in Eastern Railway's Sealdah section, following thundershowers this afternoon. Overhead connection was snapped at different places betweenn Sealdah and Naihati.

Several trees were also uprooted, damaging a number of houses in Barrackpore and adjoining areas of North 24 Parganas and snapping electricity.

The maximum temperature was recorded at 36 degrees Celsius while the minimum was at 26.5 degrees Celsius, the MET officials said.

Maximum relative humidity was pegged at 91 per cent and the minimum at 58 per cent.

The MET office forecast partly overcast sky with possibility of rainfall and thundershowers in the city and its suburbs during the next 24 hours.
