Four die in lightning

Cuddalore, May 21 (UNI) A 35-year-old woman and her two children were charred to death on the spot, when lightning accompanied by rain struck them, at PuliyurKattuSalai village near here today.

Police said, the deceased were identified as Kanakarani and her chidren Samundi (13) and Viji (12). The tragedy took place while they were engaged in work at their farm.

On receiving the information police rushed to the spot and took the bodies to the government headquarters hospital here for post-mortem, police said.

A report from Dharmapuri said a 28-year-old farmer died and three others injured as lightning struck at Chinnakummanur village in Dharmapuri district in Tamil Nadu yesterday.

Police said, the deceased was identified as Annamalai. The deceased and the injured took shelter under a tree, to escape from rain when the mishap occured, police said.

The injured were admitted to a local hospital, police added.
