Fact Finding Committee demands CBI inquiry
Hyderabad, May 21 (UNI) The Fact Finding Committee, constituted by various civil liberties organisations, today demanded that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) should inquire into the bomb blast at Mecca Masjid, which killed 14 people and injured 50.
Addressing a press conference here, Republican Party of India (RPI) State President Bojja Tharakam and Revolutionary Writers Association member Varava Rao said the Committee had visited the Mecca Masjid yesterday and also met eye witnesses and the injured.
Condemning the bomb blast and police firing, they said both the incidents were aimed at terrorising Muslims and shattering their confidence.
''Police firing took place at a place, which was about 200 meters away from the Masjid. This showed that the police was aiming at people who were proceeding towards Masjid or going away from it,'' they alleged.
The government till date was not in a position to give the exact number of deaths due to bomb blast and police firing.
According to information gathered by the Committee, the deaths due to police firing were more than the deaths due to bomb blast, they alleged.
''The police opened fire without giving any warning. The police did not use rubber bullets and water cannons before opening fire. Doctors attending the injured did not find any traces of injuries due to rubber bullets,'' they pointed out.
