Economic blockade affects life in Manipur

Imphal, May 21 (UNI) The indefinite economic blockade on two vital national highways- 39 and 53- called by All Tribal Students' Union, that began from midnight of May 19, affected movement of essentials as vehicles were off the highways.

All passenger buses were, however, allowed to move on through the highways.

The ATSUM has also called a 24-hour Manipur bandh on May 24 to intensify its agitation demanding proper reservation policy for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe people. It also demanded appointment of teachers for the tribal students in the hills.

The government was providing escorts to the trucks carrying goods.
