EC appoints Selvaraj as returning officer

Chennai, May 21 (UNI) The Election Commission has appointed Tamil Nadu Assembly Secretary M Selvaraj as the returning officer for the June 15 biennial election to fill up six Rajya Sabha seats from the state Assembly.

The Election Commission has sent the details of the rules and regulations for the election to the returning officer and Assembly Secretary Selvaraj, an official release here said.

Leader of the Opposition and AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa had urged the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) to appoint a neutral person other than Mr Selvaraj as returning officer.

The CEC should nominate someone else with high integrity as returning officer, she had said.
