Delimitation: CEC says final draft by Sept

Tiruchirapalli, May 21 (UNI) Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N Gopalswamy today said the final draft of delimitation of Parliament and assembly constituencies across the country would be ready by September this year.

Talking to newsmen here after chairing the final day of the two-day public hearing on delimitation of Parliament and Assembly Constituencies of the Central Region of Tamil Nadu, the CEC said so far the public hearing has been completed in 22 states across the country.

Once the public hearings ended in Tamil Nadu with the final sitting at Chennai on May 23, the Delimitation Commission of India would go ahead with similar public hearings in Bihar, Asom, Meghalya and Jharkhand.

He said once the public hearings in remaining states were completed, the final draft would be made ready by September this year and if at all there was any delay, it would take one or two months more.

Mr Gopalswamy said every point made by the public, representatives of politcal parties and farmers would be considered while preparing the final draft. However, every suggestion of the public cannot be agreed upon and the Commission would consider people sentiments to the extent possible and respond accordingly.

Earlier, the CEC had received a number of petitions from the public and other representatives of various fora at Perambalur and Pudukkottai districts.
