Brides refuse to accompany grooms in MP

Sehore (MP), May 21: Two brides, who were unhappy about their father being beaten up, refused to accompany the grooms even after the latter arrived for a second time at this district headquarters.

The women also demanded divorce. On April 29, wedding parties arrived from Shujalpur and this district's Tomdi village at Ichhawar Nagar-resident Meherban Singh's place. The weddings were solemnised at night but when the wedding parties were leaving the following day a fight ensued and Singh was beaten up after he attempted to intervene.

The brides' side was furious and refused to let its daughters leave despite entreaties by the grooms' side.

Grooms Jeetendra and Elam approached the police's Family Counselling Centre. Yesterday, Centre Superintendent Rajkumar Gupta and Inspector Lakshmi Kushwah attempted to forge an understanding but Babita and Reena demanded divorce. The women's parents supported their decision.
