Scrap Joint Terrorism Mechanism with Pak: BJP
New Delhi, May 21: The BJP today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to wind up Joint Terrorism Mechanism with Pakistan in the light of its abject failure in getting the Mumbai and Hyderabad blasts' accused extradited from that country.
BJP Spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said it was a matter of fact that India sought Shahid Bilal, a member of HUJI, on March 6 in the light of Samjhauta Express blasts, but there was no response from the other side. His name was now again cropping up after the Mecca Majid blasts in Hyderabad.
The Government also did nothing to get Azam Cheema, who is wanted in connection with the Mumbai blasts, extradited from Pakistan which has been proclaiming that Kashmir will not be brought under the mechanism, Mr Prasad said.
In the light of this, it would be better to wind up this mechanism, he added.
