New Delhi, May 21 (UNI) BHEL-built power generating sets generated a record 432.81 billion units of electricity during 2006-07, 7.5 per cent more than the previous year.

This constituted 73 per cent of the country's total power generation and contributed substantially in narrowing the gap between demand and supply of power, a BHEL spokesman said here today.

During the period, BHEL thermal sets achieved an all-time high plant load factor (PLF) of 78.3 per cent, which was higher than the national average by 1.5 per cent.

Operating availability (OA) of these sets was also the highest ever at 84.7 per cent. Notably, 75 BHEL sets achieved PLF of more than 90 per cent, while six BHEL-make thermal sets of various ratings operated at a record PLF of 100 per cent.

In the same period, BHEL-make thermal sets of 200/210/250/500 MW capacity, which form the backbone of the country's thermal power generating capacity, operated at an impressive PLF and OA of 83.5 per cent and 88.7 per cent, respectively.
