AP police sets up special cell on masjid blast probe

Hyderabad, May 21 (UNI) Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Balvinder Singh today announced a 'Special Investigation Cell' was being set up under Additional Commissioner Harish Kumar Gupta to investigate the bomb explosion at the Mecca Masjid last Friday.

Talking to newsmen here, he denied Andhra Police had gone to Kolkata for investigation and termed such media reports ''baseless.'' The Commissioner said the police had not taken any one into custody so far, in connection with the blast case.

Replying to a question, Mr Singh said investigation was on to know if the mobile phone recovered by the 'National Security Guards' team from the pond inside the Masjid had anything to do with the blast. The commissioner said the situation was totally under control in the old city where the masjid was located.
