Srinagar, May 20 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Police today claimed to have solved a blind murder case by arresting a woman who had allegedly axed her husband to death in Qazigund area.

Giving details, Station House Officer (SHO) Qazigund Reyaz Ahmed Langoo said on May 15 they received a complaint from Ghulam Mohammad Khan, a resident of Pachgam Kund, that his son-in-law Mohammad Shafi Bhat had gone to a nearby jungle to fetch firewood two days ago, and was yet to return home.

On this, a missing report was lodged in the Qazigund police station and efforts launched to trace Bhat, he added.

During investigations, the SHO said police came to know that the woman, identified as Akhter, was allegedly having illicit relations with another person of the same village, Mohammad Akram.

Mr Langoo said Akram was subjected to sustained questioning, but it was found that he knew nothing about the missing person.

Police questioned Akhter during which she confessed to killing her husband and then burying his body in the jungle, he added.

During questioning, Akhter said her husband frequently used to taunt regarding her relations with Akram. Akhter said she could no longer bear the taunts and finally decided to get rid of him.

On May 13, Akhter persuaded Bhat to accompany her to the jungle for collecting firewood and as he was busy in the job, she chopped off his head with an axe and then buried his body, the SHO said.

Later, she sent her father to the Qazigund police station and managed to lodge a false missing report, he added.

On the instance of Akhter, police recovered Bhat's body along with the weapon of offence from the forest. Police have arrested the woman and registered a case in this regard, the SHO said.
