2 new certificate prog in nursing by IGNOU

New Delhi, May 20: To cater to the growing needs of the medical profession, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) starting two new courses for nursing personnel from the coming July 2007 session.

The two Certificate Programmes -- the 'Newborn and Infant Care' (NIC) and the 'Maternal and Child Health Care' (MCHC)-- aim at improving knowledge and skills of nursing personnel in newborn care and reproductive and child health, according to IGNOU.

The six-month programme would help nursing personnel develop skills in integrated management of neonatal and childhood illness, it added.

While the eligibility for the NIC programme is Nursing with diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery or BSc (Nursing), the MCHC programme requires Nursing with diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery or the Auxillary Nurse Midwife (ANM).

Study centres for the programmes would be in Srinagar, Delhi, Khanna, Bangalore, Bhopal, Pune, Hyderabad, Cochin, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Orissa, Guwahati and Madurai.

The last date for receipt of application forms is May 31.
