Thai minister's NE visit begins from May 21
Agartala, May 20: A four-member delegation, led by Thailand Commerce minister, is scheduled to visit the northeastern states from tomorrow to explore the possibility of importing bamboo products, official sources said here today.
The delegation on a week-long visit to the region will meet the trade group and commerce department officials of Mizoram here, sources said.
The team will leave for Kohima on May 22 and meet Manipur representatives there while they will hold meeting with Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya officials in Guwahati after wards.
Meanwhile, a 19-member delegation of Bhutan which came here a couple of days back and visited a number of bamboo growing areasleft today. They had also held meeting with Forest minister and top officials of the state.
Both Thailand and Bhutan had earlier expressed their interest to import bamboo products from northeastern states following growing demand of their country.
They have also proposed to send their artisans in the region for imparting training on bamboo cultivation and making house holds products.
