Powerful time device found in Asom

Jorhat, May 20 (UNI) A major tragedy was averted today following the recovery of a powerful time device from a marketplace in Jorhat town of Upper Asom.

Jorhat Additional Superintendent of Police Mukul Saikia said the bomb was detected at around 0630 hours at Machar Haat in Newvill Road of the town.

He said the device was set to go off at 0800 hours when the market remained crowded and casualties would have run high.

Vendors spotted an unclaimed sack and immediately informed the police. The bomb squad rushed to the spot and defused it immediately.

Police suspect the hands of the outlawed ULFA behind it, though the group has not claimed responsibility yet.
