Pleasant weather in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 20 (UNI) Kashmir continued to experience pleasant weather for the second consecutive day today as slight drizzle in the evening further lowered the temperature.

Weather office here said the maximum temperature in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir was recorded at 23.6 degrees Celsius.

The night temperature stood at 13.7 degrees Celsius.

In the famed tourist resort of Pahalgam, the maximum temperature was recorded at 22.0 degrees Celsius while the minimum stood at 8.0 degrees Celsius.

The Met office said 0.44 mm rainfall was received in Srinagar and 1.88 mm in Pahalgam.

It predicted rain and thundershowers at many places in the state.

At least five people, including a Jharkhand resident, were killed and 30 others wounded in a storm that hit several parts of the Kashmir valley on Friday evening.

Hundreds of houses and other structures were damaged, electric poles and trees uprooted besides fruit crop destroyed due to the strong winds accompanied by heavy rains.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel rescued more than 200 tourists and locals from Dal and Nigeen Lakes here.
