Patwari murders farmer in Punjab

Fazilka, May 20 (UNI) A revenue official (patwari) allegedly shot dead a farmer and injured another following an altercation at Kotha Thugni village near here last night, police today stated.

According to the police, patwari Dara Singh opened fire from his licensed revolver after a verbal duel with Gurmail Singh and his brother Jasmail Singh. The patwari had demanded a certain sum of money from the two brothers for a favour, which the brothers refused to pay.

The patwari then pulled out his revolver and opened fire, killing Gurmail Singh on the spot and injuring Jasmail Singh. The injured was rushed to the DMC hospital at Ludhiana.

The police has registered a criminal case against the patwari and two of his associates.
