Notorious burglar held; gold, silver articles recovered

Vijayawada, May 20 (UNI) The city police have arrested a notorious burglar along with four accomplices and recovered over one kg of gold ornaments and four kg of silver articles, valued at about Rs 11 lakh.

Informing this at a press conference here today, City Police Commissioner C V Anand said the accused, A Venkanna alias Kranti Kiran alias Srinivasa Rao, had been involved in 76 offences since 1992 in different parts of the State and arrested 15 times. He had been released from jail only in March.

He said four accomplices -- T Madhusudhan Rao alias Madhu, T Sambasiva Rao alias Yeera Sambiah, V Bhavani Shankar alias Shankar and V Venkateswara Rao (Shankar's father) alias Kondalu -- were arrested for purchasing the stolen gold and silver ornaments from him.

The Commissioner said nine burglary cases have been booked against Rao in the city and 17 arrest warrants were pending against him in Kadapa, Nellore, Chilkaluripet, Guntur, Eluru, Visakhapatnam and Rajahmundry.
