Masjid blast: Normalcy restored in old city

Hyderabad, May 20: Normalcy has been restored in the old city two days after a powerful bomb blast in the Mecca Masjid and subsequent police firing on the mob left 14 people dead and 50 others injured.

Police sources said here today that no untoward incident had been reported so far and security had been tightened at the sensitive areas in the old city and other parts of the twin cities.

Fifty special teams had been deployed in the troubled areas and they were working round the clock to maintain law and order.

The blast in the masjid was a terrorist attack planned meticulously but no concrete evidence had emerged so far. The investigation had began in right earnest with the spotting of a SIM card at the blast site. Intelligence officials had received the details of the person from a cell phone recovered at the spot.

Meanwhile, the explosives recovered from the masjid were sent to the Forensic Science Labouratory for detailed examination.

Shahed Bilal, one of the most wanted terrorists associated with terror groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Harkat-Ul- Jihad-al-Islami and Lashkar-e-Toiba and a native of this city was suspected to be the mastermind behind the blast, the sources added.
