Jammu, May 20: The National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) has appealed to speed up the functioning of the 6th Pay Commission for time bound submission of its report along-with immediate interim relief of Rs 1000 per month with effect from January 2006 for central and state government employees.

Advocating the commission to submit its report in one year instead 18 months, President of NMC Subash Shastri urged the chairman to submit the report as soon as possible.

In a memorandum sent to Justice B M Krishna at Srinagar, Mr Shastri said the period for submission of the report is too long as the prices are soaring unabated and salary hike is a must in a time bound manner, to neutralize this price hike so that it saves the working class from economic hardships.

He suggested the commission be declared as National Pay Commission to realise the objective of a uniform pay policy throughout the country as per pay scales, bonus, LTC, Medical Allowance, CCA, Disturbed Area Allowance and such benefits.

Mr Shastri further urged for providing special package to Jammu and Kashmir for meeting expenditure to provide D A installments, interim relief and implementing report for the employees as a special case.

He has also incited to recommend Jammu and Srinagar as B-1 cities of state. Giving B-1 status to both capital cities would ensure more flow of funds for upgrading infrastructures and modernising civic amenities of these fast expanding cities, he added.

Mr Shastri said since cost of living has also increased in Srinagar and Jammu, it will benefit salaried class with increasing HRA and CCA. Both cities have required norms, including population for being given B-1 status.
