Niraj Thakur new South Goa SP; Viswas Karpe Old Goa PI

Panaji, May 20 (UNI) Niraj Thakur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), New Delhi, today took charge as Superintendent of Police in-charge of North Goa district following suspension of the incumbant D K Sawant for alleged ''dereliction of election duty''.

Viswas Karpe, instructor at the Police Training School (PTS) at Valpoi, replaces old Goa police inspector Raju Raut who was also suspended today on the same charge.

Mr Viswas had earlier worked in Old Goa before going to the PTS, according to deputy inspector general of police Ujjwal Mishra.

Their suspensions were seques to the instruction by the Chief election Commission, New Delhi in connection with the June 2 elections to the Goa Legisltive Assembly for which preparations are underway and candidates finalised.
