Election candidate shot dead

Bettiah, May 20 (UNI) A candidate to the coming Bettiah Nagar Parishad election from ward number two, Shankar Shah was shot dead by criminals at his residence in Jamadartola locality of Refugee Colony under town police station last evening.

District police superintendent Bachchu Singh Meena today said tension prevailed in the area following the assassination of the candidate, although situation was under control.

No arrest had been made so far and the case was under investigation, he added.

Elections to the Nagar Parishad is scheduled for May 26 .
