Cong team to investigate Bastar fake encounter

Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, May 20 (UNI) A 10-member Congress team would arrive here tomorrow to investigate into the alleged fake encounter of seven tribals at Punjer in naxal-affected Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.

Congress sources said the members of the committee -- constituted by party President Sonia Gandhi -- would visit the encounter site on May 22.

After interacting with tribals regarding anti-naxalite movement 'Salwa Judum', the committee would submit its report to the party president on May 25.

Apart from parliamentarian Madhusudan Mistri, Madhya Pradesh Opposition Leader Jamuna Devi, the committee includes Sushila Triya (Orissa), Marget Hujur (Jharkhand) and Moolchand Meena (Rajasthan).

Seven villagers were allegedly killed by police in a fake encounter. After the matter came to light, the bodies were dug out in the presence of senior police officials.
