65 per cent children administered polio drops in Haryana
Chandigarh, May 20 (UNI) About 65 per cent children between the age of 0-5 years, were administered polio drops under the Sub-National Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) round which was held in the State today.
While stating this here Health Minister, Mrs Kartar Devi said that during the three-day campaign about 40 lakh children would be covered and during these two days house-to-house activities would also carried out to administer polio vaccine to the left out children.
The Minister said that for the successful implementation of IPPI round as many as 15,630 booths were set up at locations convenient to the people and about 62,500 vaccinators drawn from Health and Education Departments, Integrated Child Development Services scheme and the Non-Governmental Organisations, representatives of Haryana Unit of Indian Medical Association, self help groups and a number of volunteers were engaged to make the success this drive.
She said that during the round special attention was being given to the slums, far-flung areas, isolated hutments, brick,kilns and floating and migrating population wherever pockets of children would remain un-immunised. She expressed hope that after the successful round of plus polio immunization the areas of Poliovirus circulation would be reduced.
The Health Minister said that about 3,100 supervisors were oversee the functioning of the vaccination teams and ensure that no child was left unimmunised. Nodal officers from the State Headquarters and independent monitors from Pt B D S Post-graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak also monitored the campaign to ensure quality of services and complete coverage.
