Weather turns pleasant in UP

Lucknow, May 19 (UNI) A sudden burst of heavy rainfall hit parts of Uttar Pradesh this morning, bringing people relief from the roasting heat during the past couple of days.

Owing to rains and squall, Lucknowites woke up to a pleasant weather with skies being overcast.

People in the city of Nawabs got the much awaited respite from the scorching heat as rainfall accompanied by the Easterly winds plummeted the maximum temperature from 48.6 degrees C to 39.2 degrees C.

In the last 24 hrs, temperature was recorded below normal in Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Varanasi, Kanpur, Jhansi and Bareilly divisions.

Varanasi recorded 37.2 degress C, followed by 34.7 in Bareilly and 36.9 in Gorakhpur.

Bareilly was the wettest recording 11 mm rainfall.

The coolness in the air is likely to persist for the next two days with the weathermen forecasting more rain and thundershowers, accompanied by squalls at several places in the next 24 hrs..
