Surat to start city bus service

Surat, May 19 (UNI) Surat Municipal Corporation has almost completed the process of beginning the long awaited city bus services and around 60 buses painted in red like the BEST buses in Mumbai and having SMC emblem on it will hit the roads by July 15.

S Aparna, SMC commissioner said SMC is planning to operate 200 buses in the city and in the initial phase around 60 buses will begin service.

According to SMC commissioner, the buses will be operated by three private groups and the corporation will provide necessery logistics like parking space, work shop , terminals etc.

Each bus will have 28 to 32 seats. The buses will also have FM radio and display board to inform passengers about the locality through which it is passing.

SMC has also appointed a co-ordination committee comprising senior officials of the corporation, city police and regional traffic officials to clear the traffic problems.
