Panaji, May 19 (UNI) Social activist Adv Aires Rodrigues, who mooted the Goa Bachao Abhiyan that forced the government to keep on hold the controversial regional plan 2011, today announced his support to the BJP saying he would actively campaign for the party for the June 2 assembly elections.

The best option for the people is to elect the BJP and the independents, he told mediapersons while announcing his support for the party.

Expressing disgust at the political defections from the Congress last week, Mr Rodrigues said it showed that ''self interest'' had taken precedence over interests of the party and Goa.

Taking a dig at the Congress, Mr Rodrigues stated that the party had looted the state and destroyed its social and cultural identity in the name of secularism.

The two-year rule of the Congres has witnessed an unprecedented number of public agitations against the government's anti-people decisions, most of which had either been stayed by the courts or put on hold following public uproar, he said.

The people, he said, should elect new faces in place of the old hands like Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane, his deputy Dr Wilfred De Souza and others ministers like Luizinho Faleiro and Dayanand Narvekar to keep Goa's interests safe.

At the same time, he said, politicians like Vishwajit Rane, Vijay Sardesai, Dinar Tarcar and Mouvin Godinho are a threat to the state.
