Naga Hoho to constitute Peace Committee

Kohima, May 19: The Naga Hoho, the apex tribal organisation of the Naga tribes will constitute a Unity and Reconciliation Committee (URC) to bring peace and unity in the Naga society.

Official sources here today said the URC would take up the task of bringing about harmony and reconciliation among various Naga underground factions and tribes.

The decision to constitute the committee was taken in a crucial meeting of the Naga Hoho at Dimapur yesterday.

The meeting was attended by about 50 Naga tribal representatives from 17 Naga communities, including the Eastern Naga Peoples Organisation.

The participants in the meeting discussed '' Why Nagas fight each other instead of coming together to solve the Indo-Naga political problem. '' After the meeting, the Naga Hoho leaders told newspersons that the resolution to constitute the peace committee was formed at the meeting and requested its federal units of all the tribes to nominate the members of the committee from which a convenor would be appointed.

The entire process would be completed by June 15, sources stated.
