Mann sent in judicial custody on sedition charges

Jalandhar, May 19 (UNI) Judicial Magistrate Deepak Chaudhary late last evening remanded Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) President Simranjeet Singh Mann, Shiromani Akali Dal (Jaffarwal) president Wasan Singh Jaffarwal and 18 others in judicial custody till June 1 on sedition charges.

The administration fearing that Mann, Jaffarwal and their supporters could vitiate the already charged atmosphere, booked them last night under section 124-A of IPC, related to sedition charges.

The police had earlier booked Mann, Jaffarwal and 18 others under sections 107 and 151 of CrPC on May 14 for putting placards with photos of Dilawar Singh, who reportedly assassinated the then Punjab chief minister Beant Singh, on Beant Singh's statue.
