HC refuses to stay district judges exams

Mumbai, May 19 (UNI) A division bench of the Bombay High Court has refused to stay examinations for district Judges posts, to be held on Monday by the Law and Judiciary department of the state.

Anita Kataria and some other candidates have challenged the criteria adopted by the Law and Judiciary department for eligibility of candidates for the examinations. The candidates have taken strong objection to a condition, which requires candidates being Income Tax payees, apart from having secured at least 50 per cent marks in LLB exams.

The petitioners had contended that the condition of Income Tax payments was discrimatory.

But a division bench comprising Justice R M Sawant and Justice Amjad Sayyad declined to stay the examination, which is scheduled for Monday.

The matter will now appear before the regular bench of the court for further hearing.
