Fill up backlog vacancies: SC/ST federation
Chennai, May 19 (UNI) The All India Confederation of SC/ST Organisations today expressed concern over the apathy of the Central and State Governments in filling up the backlog vancancies meant for SC/STs during the yesteryears.
Confederation's National Chairman Udit Raj said it was high time the centre and state governments filled up these vacancies.
Recalling the victory of Bahujan Samaj Party Supremo and dalit leader Mayawati in Uttar Pradesh, Dr Udit Raj said it sent out a warning to those who were against the interests of dalits. He said if any Chief Minister or the Centre would continuosly neglect the interests of the Dalits, they would emerge in other parts of the country as in the recent Assembly Elections in Uttar Pradesh.
The Confederation would mobilise the dalits all over the country to fight against governments' failure to protect their interests he said adding the Congress led UPA Government at the Centre is totally forgetting the Common Minimum Programme (CMP).
Confederation's Tamil Nadu President Ranganathan said Chief Minister M Karunanidhi was kind enough to come forward to fill up the backlog vacancies. He urged Mr Karunanidhi to follow the reservation system in the promotion avenues for the State Government employees and also to ensure reservation in private sector.
They would hold a meeting with Mr Karunanidhi shortly and personal request had been made in this regard, Mr Ranganathan said.
