Death sentence for rape, murder

Bhopal, May 19 (UNI) A local court today awarded death sentence to Dilip, convicted for committing the rape and murder of a minor.

On May 11, the court had sentenced the same accused to life imprisonment for raping another minor.

Dilip had himself sought death sentence from the court. He had reportedly refused to appeal against the verdict.

Noting that Dilip was a habitual offender, the court observed that the accused had been found guilty of the crime. He had sexually assaulted a five-year-old girl at Kunan Nagar in the state capital on August 21, 2005.

He had also raped a 10-year-old girl in 2005. Dilip had earlier undergone imprisonment on the charges of molestation and rape.

Public Prosecutor H N Jha appeared on the behalf of the government in the case, while counsel Rajnish Bairaiya acted as defence counsel.
