CM Demands Umroi airport upgradation

Shillong, May 19 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister D D Lapang has demanded upgradation of the Umroi Airport for better connectivity.

Mr Lapang who was speaking at the 54th meeting of the North East Council(NEC) at Aizawl yesterday, also emphasised the need of making the services of the 50-seater aircraft more reliable.

''With modern technology and human commitment, it is feasible to upgrade the Umroi Airport to make it fit for landing of large aircraft,'' he said.

He requested the Civil Aviation and Doner Ministries and the NEC to help in upgrading the vial infrastructure of the state.

On the Baljek Airport at Tura, Mr Lapang said the Airports Authority of India should complete the remaining work to make the airport operational and also to undertake further expansion.
