BJP gives call for 'Marathwada bandh'
Mumbai, May 19 (UNI) The state unit of the BJP has given a call for 'Marathwada bandh' tomorrow in protest against the police action against national party general secretary Gopinath Munde and others in Aurangabad today.
A BJP release said that in Marathwada, 40 lakh tonne of sugarcane was still uncrushed and hence the party had given a call for 'Burn sugarcane' agitation, in which nearly 50,000 farmers participated.
The agitation was held at 67 tehsil offices in Marathwada.
Mr Munde was injured along with other party functionaries when police resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse the agitators when they turned violent.
The BJP claimed the government wanted to suppress the agitation by using police force, the release added.
