Dhaka, May 19 (UNI) Jamaat-e-Islami(Bangladesh) today expressed deep concern at the death of seven people in a bomb blast in a mosque in Hyderabad during Juma prayers yesterday.

JI Ameer Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami, in a statement today, condemned the police firing killing four Muslims following a bomb explosion in the ancient Mecca Mosque that left nine people dead in Hyderabad.

''It is a heinous act that has hurt not only the Muslims across the world but also those who stood against terrorism and believed in democratic values,'' he said.

The Jamaat chief said it is the sacred duty of the Indian government to ensure safety of lives of the Muslims and their property and protect their rights to practicing their religion.

''But the Indian government always failed to protect the mosques and lives of worshippers causing a serious concern for the Muslims around the world,'' he said.

Maulana Nizami hoped that the Indian government would take necessary steps to protect the Muslims and ensure their right to freely practice their religion.

He described those killed as martyrs and prayed for eternal peace for their souls and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved families.
