K'taka: Wild elephant attacks villager
Madikeri (Karnataka), May 18: A 48-year-old man was attacked by a wild elephant, seriously injuring him, at 7th Hoskote, near here.
Raju found a surprise visitor in his house when he came out in the morning. Before he could gather his wits, the jumbo lifted him with its trunk and threw him. When a neighbour woman raised an alarm, the elephant fled away.
Another pachyderm tried to attack the neighbour, Thangamani, but she escaped miraculously. After the incident, three more wild elephants were sighted in the area. The residents fled their houses to protect themselves.
Raju was admitted to Venlock Hospital in Mangalore yesterday.
The 7th Hoskote villagers, especially in Kallur Road side, lived in perpetual fear due to the elephant menace.
