Agartala, May 18 (UNI) The SBI has decided to provide loans to the viable projects for construction of power generation plants, roads, and tourist complexes in North Eastern states, official sources said here today.

The officials said as part of the rural penetration programme, the bank had planned to reach to about one lakh villages of the country within the next two years.

Claiming it to be the most ambitious project ever taken up by any bank the officials stated,''Presently we are doing a pilot project in Mizoram and will be soon taking up another project in Meghalaya's West Garo Hills district to open at least one bank account for each family in those villages.'' The bank would also conduct a special recruitment drive for NE states because out of 14 circles across the country, the SBI Circle in the region grabbed the top positions in agriculture and its allied sectors, besides, giving loans to artisans, personal segments or industries.
