Rice smuggling gang held

Chennai, May 18 (UNI) The Railway Police arrested an eight-member gang for attempting to smuggle PDS rice to Andhra Pradesh, yesterday.

The polce said in a surprise raid conducted on suburban trains at Chennai Central-Gummidipoondi Section, they seized about 2,000 kg rice.

The arrested were identified as Ponnammal (50), Muniammal (45), Kumari (52), Angammal (60), Kannammal (51), Devi (42), Annakili (47) and Manohar (45) of Gummudipoondi.

They were remanded to judicial custody, police said.
