Oppn leader Dharam Singh criticises govt for helping developers

Bangalore, May 18 (UNI) Opposition leader in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly N Dharam Singh today alleged that the government had become a nodal agency for land developers by facilitating them to purchase government lands acquired from the land encroachers.

Speaking to newsmen here, he said that though the Legislature Committee headed by A T Ramaswamy had identified 27,000 acres of encroached land, neither the name of encroacher was published nor any officer was punished for conniving with developers. Acquired lands had been auctioned to developers and in a way the Legislature Committee had become a nodal agency to developers and builders to provide prime lands of the government, he felt.

He said the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Rural Mission covered Bangalore and Mysore for overall infrastructural development. While Rs 22536 crores would be spent on Bangalore and Rs 12000 crores on Mysore in this regard during five years, the Correct Dimension Plan, required to implement the project, was not yet ready.

Besides, the elected body of the city corporation was also required to approve the proposal and the government was hesitating to hold election to the corporation, he chided.
