Five blast convicts get three yrs RI

Mumbai, May 18 (UNI) The designated Tada court here today awarded three years rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 25,000 each to five convicts who were earlier found guilty by the court under the Customs Act for their involvement in the 1993 serial bomb blasts case.

Pronouncing the quantumn of sentence upon the five convicts Yeshwant Boinkar, Abbas Shaikdare, Ibrahim Shaikdare, Rashid Aalware and Sharif Adhikar special TADA court judge P D Kode said, they were found guilty under Section 111 read with Section 135(b) of the Indian Customs Act and hence they are liable to undergo RI for three years and pay a fine of Rs 25,000 each and will have to undergo another six months RI in default.

All the five convicts, found guilty by the court last October, were produced before the court amidst heavy police protection.

Pronouncing the verdict to the individuals by calling them to the witness box, Judge Kode said that as per the material produced before the court, it was proved that they had used their small boat for loading and unloading of deadly RDX from the high seas to the coastal area of Raigad district of Maharashtra.
